I love Barcelona's beautiful blue skies that remind me of Nairobi blue (which is actually a registered colour). This photo was taken during my first week in Barcelona. The day was so bright and beautiful...and as you may have already noticed, I love bright colours.
Castell (human tower) is a Catalan tradition that really amazes me. In 2006, UNESCO recognised it as a Heritage of Humanity. According to me, the concept symbolises unity and strength of togetherness...incredibly admirable.
Welcome to the Universitat Pompeu Fabra Ciutadella Campus. I am a sucker for intriguing architecture...it makes me as happy as the use of ellipsis does.
Who would want to miss class when their campus looks like this?
But in actual fact, this is the view from my real campus, the communication studies campus (Campus del Poblenou).
Since we're talking about campuses, the Balmes Building stands tall with its impressive exterior and interior design. The view from the rooftop is pretty decent too!
The "Hogwarts" library is where most of the students burn the midnight oil. The architecture is inspiring...I sometimes like to feel like Hermione Granger learning about spells and potions...wingardium leviosa!
Did I mention how close the beach is to the Ciutadella Campus? Just look for that tall building (below) and you're nearly there! PS, Barcelona's beach has got nothing on Diani beach. If you know you know ;) The Ciutadella Park is also a few minutes walk away ...could this be one of the coolest campuses ever?
But Barcelona is not all about school I must say...I would be foolish to let it be all about school. It is about meeting new friends, and taking candid photos of them!
...but, it is also about them taking candid photos of you!
On a serious note, this hike (in Serra de Collserola) was absolutely stunning. The beauty about Barcelona is that you don't have to go far away to get a breath of fresh air.
Girona is about an hour and a half drive from Barcelona. Some of my friends and I decided to rent a car and drive down. There's just something about European history that takes me to another world. The ancient architecture is always the best part for me!!
Barcelona is quite the happening city. There is always something to do. A few weeks into moving here, I experienced the La Mercè Festival. There were countless events to choose from...absolutely mind-blowing. After some fantastic performances, a friend of mine and I waltzed through the city, using it as our personal studio.
Bunkers del Carmel (not caramel) offers one of the best views of Barcelona. Just be sure to carry your jacket up there.
I am lucky enough to live close to a neighbourhood known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site (Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau). Could it get better than that?
Here is a picture of the entrance of the mesmerising Parc Güell, that looked like a delicious gingerbread house on the day (I took the photo).
I am a huge fan of Gaudí. If you don't know much about Antoni Gaudí and his brilliance, please stop reading this blog and get onto Google search ;)
Palau Güell took me to me a time of horse carriages and kerosene lamps. The beautiful palace boasts detailed architecture and a trippy parabolic show. Thank you for recommending this prof (you know yourself) :)
When it comes to Pablo Picasso, you either like his work, or you don't. In my case, I absolutely love it...not just his art, but his photographs too.
I think digital photos will never have the same impact as film photos. The museum experience was indeed very informative and enriching.
Would I be fair if I didn't mention the famous Camp Nou Stadium?
...to all of my Kenyan friends, NO, I have NOT met Messi yet! But I am waiting for his invitation to coffee and cake. In case that doesn't happen soon, I'd love to catch him in action on the pitch!
I must've mentioned that I absolutely love bright colours. The FC Barcelona store reaaaallly caught my eye.
December 2019 was the first time I spent Christmas in a "cold" country that actually has seasons such as winter (I know... I know. Barcelona winters are very mild). The atmosphere is completely different compared to hot Kenyan Christmases. This felt more festive, thanks to the warm scarves and hot chocolate! Nevertheless, a hot Christmas in shorts and flip flops, is also a good option.
