On valentines day, I checked something off my bucket list...something I'm sure is on many people's lists...
I went to Paris!
I can't describe the feeling when you finally see something you've dreamed of seeing for many years...it is simply indescribable.
The Eiffel Tower is not as tall as I expected it to be, but nevertheless, it is absolutely stunning (especially at night, when all the sparkles are turned on)!
If you look close enough, Paris is artistic in more ways than you'd expect. After using the underground metro a few times, I noticed that each station is unique and tailored to the characteristics of the respective areas.
Several friends of mine recommended a trip to Montmarte, a calm Parisian district. It was definitely one of my favourite spots to spend the little time I had in Paris.
If you love old religious structures, you have to visit the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmarte.
It is beautiful inside-out and it offers some of the best views of Paris (even with a grey backdrop!). You can enjoy beautiful gardens as you descend from the basilica.
Paris surprised me by still looking charming, despite the deep grey skies.
I wish I had more time to admire the Mona Lisa... undoubtedly one of the most awe-struck moments in my life.
Museums like The Louvre cannot be experienced in one day, let alone one afternoon. I didn't get to see as much as I'd have liked to, but whatever I did get to see blew me away (especially the architecture! I know- not the main point of the museum).
If there is one palace in Europe that really reminds me of the grand Indian palaces, it is the Palace of Versailles. My friend had to drag me out since I didn't want to leave! I could spend hours not just gasping at the architecture, but also admiring the wonderful art and learning about the lavish royal lifestyle.
Of course I did some of the most touristy things one can do- It was a shame that I had to admire the Notre-Dame from afar. But nevertheless, was a beautiful sight.
Can we just appreciate the symmetry of this bridge? It was right beside the Notre-Dame.
Indulging at a Crepêrie was a must. Crepêrie Mad'eo! pleasantly surprised us. It was small, though cozy. An elderly woman (I presume is the owner) warmly welcomed us (in English). She was very kind and was able to give us the best advice regarding crepes! Her passion for crepes and gastronomy from Britanny was evident from her enthusiasm. The crepes were of course, lip-licking. If I had the time, I'd have stayed there from breakfast till dinner...you know, just hanging around and stuffing my face. Both the food and drinks were very typical of Brittany... scored 100% with regard to authenticity.
If you're in Paris, not eating here would be doing yourself an injustice. http://www.madeo.bzh/
We were very lucky to get 1 bright blue day, in a 2 day Parisian winter trip!
This final picture (like all other pictures) was taken on my mobile phone and isn't a true representation of the mesmerising birds eye-view of the city, at night.
This is also a must-do when in Paris; preferably the last thing to do before you fly out.
Moral of the story- 2 days are not enough to see the city of lights! I definitely have to go back sometime soon!
